The Lucky Key 7 area is underlain by Early to Middle Jurassic rocks of the Saddle Hill and Smithers formations of the Hazelton Group. The strata are intruded by Late Cretaceous to Eocene dioritic rock.
Mineralization encountered in 1998 drill core was as primary magnetite, pyrite and very minor chalcopyrite. The alteration minerals observed in the core were calcite, both welding fractures and as disseminations in the intermediate volcanics and quartz-muscovite (sericite) in the more felsic intrusives. Silicification was observed to accompany the sulphide mineralization.
Work History
In 1996, Golden Kootenay Resource conducted work on the Hearne group of claims (Assessment Report 24767). The Golden Key grid was installed, then the Lucky Key 7 grid and finally the Lucky Key 4 grid. These three areas comprise a total of 11 kilometres of baseline and 39.2 kilometres of gridlines for a total of 50.2 kilometres of line. A total of 39.2 kilometres of line underwent both magnetometer and single station VLF-EM. A total of 6 kilometres of self-potential was conducted. A total of 37 rock samples were cut with a diamond saw, logged and portions of the representative samples were bagged. A total of 115 soil samples were taken on the Lucky Key 7 Grid area. At least one rock sample (sample 21411 on the GHJ 1 claim) yielded high values in lead, zinc and silver.
By 1998, the property was reduced to the Lucky Key 7 and GHJ claims, on which Golden Kootenay Resources conducted a fieldwork program that included a grid controlled Self Potential (SP) survey and one vertical XRP diamond core drill hole (DDH 98-l) to a total depth of 32.62 metres. The hole was collared at an SP anomaly.
